All,
We have observed a potential safety issue regarding the climbing wall at the pool that involves several kids playing underneath the wall (in the Drop Zone) while others are climbing on it and then jumping off from the top and potentially landing on someone’s head. After witnessing this we started looking into safety measures and actually reached out to the manufacturer and found out they have Safety Guidelines that are supposed to be posted on a sign next to the climbing wall (we were not made aware of this until now). The sign is supposed to be shipped to us and the Guidelines are as follows:
- Lifeguard must be on duty
- Experienced swimmers only.
- Only two climbers permitted if there is one wall section between them.
- Only one swimmer at a time in the Drop Zone.
- No Diving and No Backflips. Feet first entries only.
- Maximum weight: 250 lbs.
Due to this safety and liability issue we are only going to have the climbing wall open when a lifeguard is on duty. We had talked about potentially going without lifeguards completely for the last month, but will continue to staff guards as much as possible during the 11am to 7pm window. We hope that everyone understands where we are coming from on this as we feel that safety is a priority. The pool will remain open normal hours through September 20th. Please let us know if you have any questions.
